ODRMC Fiddling Group
The ODRMC Fiddling Group started following a session of fiddling lessons given in the winter of 2010-11 by JJ Lavallee for children and youths through a grant from Heritage Canada. In his spare time JJ taught a few adults some fiddle basics.
Some of the adults and students continued to meet and practise together after the lessons ended. Then Bob Didier, a Maritime fiddler volunteered to help out with instruction and introduced the group to new tunes. Unfortunately, he had to return to New Brunswick.
Over time, all of the children have dropped out due to schoolwork and other family commitments but the core group of adults continues to meet. We also have guitar accompaniment usually.
If you are interested in joining the group either as a beginner or instructor, child, youth or adult, we would be happy to have you. We’ll try to share what we’ve learned.
At present, we meet in the Métis room at the Legion on Thursday evenings from 7 – 8 p.m. There are a few fiddles available to be borrowed for a limited time.
